Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasised on Tuesday the urgency of addressing global water scarcity.
Speaking at the One Water Summit, both the leaders highlighted the challenges posed by drought and water resource management and urged collective international action.
Both leaders called for international cooperation to ensure sustainable water management.
PM Shehbaz underscored the devastating impact of water scarcity, particularly in Pakistan.
He said, “Water shortage is the biggest issue in the world. Efforts to improve the water sector are essential.”
Referring to the destruction caused by flash floods in Pakistan, he remarked, “Floods caused devastation in Pakistan, and global measures are needed to address water shortages effectively.”
Meanwhile, expressing his thoughts, the Saudi crown prince said: “We welcome you to the Kingdom". He described water issues as severe and challenging, stating, “The global community must work together to resolve the water shortage issue.”
The crown prince also mentioned that the conference focused on securing water reserves and combating drought.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz and the Saudi crown prince held a meeting on the sidelines of the One Water Summit.
On this occasion, both the leaders reaffirmed their shared resolve to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The crown prince expressed immense delight over meeting PM Shehbaz for the fifth time in six months. Mohammed Bin Salman said: "The interaction is a testament to the genuine love and mutual respect uniting the peoples of both the countries."
The two leaders agreed to advance economic, trade, and investment relations, recognising their critical importance for Pakistan’s economic growth and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the discussions also emphasised the implementation of Saudi memoranda of understanding and agreements regarding investment in Pakistan, with both leaders expressing satisfaction over the progress.
PM Shehbaz thanked the crown prince for his goodwill towards the people of Pakistan and reiterated his invitation for an early visit to Pakistan.
Accepting the invitation, the crown prince stated he eagerly looked forward to the visit.
– No leniency towards miscreants, vows PM Shehbaz –
Separately, before leaving for KSA, PM Shehbaz vowed that no leniency towards the miscreants could be acceptable.

According to details, the premier presided over the meeting of the newly formed task force in Islamabad to probe the violence that erupted in the federal capital city.
Expressing his thoughts, the premier rued, "The capital was attacked during the visit of the Belarusian president. The extremists had harmed the public buildings."
"The anti-riot force will be constituted by meeting the international requirements," he said.
The PM Shehbaz-led government resolved to establish the forensic lab in the Islamabad Safe City.
