The Intercept has uncovered evidence suggesting India's involvement in a global campaign against Sikhs, with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs allegedly orchestrating crackdowns on Sikh leaders abroad.
The report, based on a memo issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in April 2023, presents a concerning picture.
Classified documents, bearing the signature of Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kotra, were sent to Indian consulates in North America, instructing them to initiate a crackdown on Sikh leaders.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the killing of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and the United States held the Modi government responsible for the conspiracy to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
The joint intelligence agency of the Five Eyes countries confirmed these claims against India, escalating the international scrutiny.
The Intercept's investigation revealed that the Modi government's involvement in the killings of Sikhs is substantiated by electronic communications between the Indian government and its consulates abroad.

These communications allegedly contain directives targeting Sikh leaders globally.
The documents released to The Intercept not only implicate the Modi government in the deaths of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, but also indicate a broader conspiracy against Sikh leaders and activists worldwide.
As a consequence of these revelations, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom have reportedly ordered senior Indian agents out of their countries.
The severity of the situation has strained diplomatic relations between India and Western countries, as concerns about terrorism and extremism allegedly sponsored by the Modi government continue to grow on the international stage.
