The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that Wednesday - January 1, 2025 - will be a public holiday for government employees in celebration of the New Year.
The announcement, shared via the authority’s official Twitter account, confirmed that all government offices would resume regular operations on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
In a parallel declaration, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) confirmed that private sector employees would also enjoy a paid holiday on January 1, marking the first public holiday of the year.
The day off aligns with the UAE’s official 2025 holiday calendar, which was released earlier this year, offering citizens and residents 13 days of public holidays in total for the year.
The initiative ensures both public and private sector employees have an opportunity to celebrate the New Year, fostering a culture of inclusivity across the UAE’s diverse workforce.
Government officials have emphasized that such announcements allow residents to plan their schedules in advance, contributing to work-life balance while maintaining productivity in the days that follow.
