Despite facing setbacks in hosting international men’s cricket matches, the city witnessed memorable moments across various disciplines.
Karachi did not host any international men’s cricket matches as Test fixtures were relocated to other cities due to development work. However, the women’s cricket team remained active, competing in three series and securing victory in one of them.
The city hosted the Sindh Games after several years, which offered a platform for local talent. Meanwhile, the 35th National Games, scheduled for 2024, were postponed, leaving athletes disappointed.
Karachi’s athletes achieved remarkable success on international platforms.
Bodybuilder Rameez Ibrahim claimed a gold medal and a pro card in the United States, bringing pride to Pakistan. Similarly, squash players Mehwish Ali, Mahnoor Ali, and Huzaifa Shahid won gold medals in the junior event of the Australian Open.
The city also hosted its first-ever autocross rally, attracting motorsport enthusiasts. Additionally, Karachi launched its first racing track, catering to fans of high-speed sports.
The year concluded with the ICC Champions Trophy tour, which drew significant public interest and added excitement to the city’s sports calendar.
