The Punjab cabinet has approved a significant increase in the salaries of parliamentarians, and now the decision will be presented to the provincial assembly for final approval.
Sources in the Punjab government confirmed that under the proposed legislation, the salary of MPAs will rise to Rs500,000. The speaker of the Punjab Assembly will receive Rs1 million, and the deputy speaker's salary will increase to Rs800,000.
According to the bill, the revised salaries for other key positions will be:
- Special assistants and advisors: Rs700,000
- Parliamentary secretaries: Rs600,000
- Provincial ministers: Rs1 million
The salary hike proposal was introduced as an ex-agenda item during the cabinet's last meeting and approved unanimously. Once the Punjab Assembly passes the bill, an official notification will be issued to implement the changes.
