General Zhang Youxia - Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) - praised the Pakistan Army's professionalism and unwavering commitment in its counter-terrorism operations during his visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Zhang, accompanied by a high-level Chinese delegation, met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir to discuss mutual interests, regional security, and defence cooperation.
The visit began with General Zhang laying a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada to honour the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs. A guard of honour was presented by a contingent of the Pakistan Army in a ceremony marking the warm reception accorded to the Chinese dignitary.
During their meeting, General Zhang expressed China’s appreciation for the Pakistan Army’s efforts in maintaining regional stability and combating terrorism. He reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to bolstering its strategic partnership with Islamabad, describing the bilateral ties as "all-weather" and rooted in mutual trust.
The discussions included a one-on-one meeting between General Zhang and COAS Munir, followed by delegation-level talks. The two sides deliberated on regional security dynamics, measures for enhancing regional stability, and ways to strengthen defence collaboration further.
COAS Munir highlighted the resilience of Pakistan-China relations, terming them a historic partnership that has consistently endured challenges posed by shifting international dynamics. “This enduring relationship, built on a foundation of mutual trust and cooperation, is poised for further growth,” he remarked.
The army chief also conveyed Pakistan’s gratitude for China’s steadfast support, irrespective of evolving regional and global environments.
General Zhang’s visit underscores China’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its strategic ties with Pakistan, particularly in the realm of defence and regional security.
