The Islamabad High Court held a hearing Friday on a petition filed by Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui for the recovery and repatriation of her sister, Aafia Siddiqui.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan presented updates on the government's efforts, detailing plans to send a four-member delegation to the United States after the upcoming elections to pursue her release.
According to the Attorney General, the delegation will include Minister Talha Mehmood, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, former Minister Anusha Rehman, and a doctor. The group is expected to engage with U.S. officials within the next two weeks to discuss potential repatriation avenues.
During the proceedings, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan confirmed Zainab Janjua Advocate as the focal person representing both sides. The court further verified the visa status of the doctor accompanying the delegation, which Dr. Fawzia confirmed was secured.
Attorney General Awan expressed optimism about a constructive dialogue during the delegation’s trip. Justice Khan adjourned the case until the end of November to review further developments on the diplomatic effort.
