In a significant move for the journalist community, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed immediate action to commence Journalist Colony Phase-II in Lahore, ensuring the provision of residential plots to journalists.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Provincial Information Minister Azma Zahid Bokhari at the Chief Minister's House, where Maryam Nawaz underscored the essential partnership between the government and the media, describing them as "two wheels of a vehicle."
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that this initiative is not a favor but a right for journalists, who will receive plots upon fulfilling necessary commercial and legal requirements.
The decision will benefit 3,200 journalists, including members of the Lahore Press Club and other eligible media professionals.
There will be members of the Lahore Press Club and non-members who will be getting plots from the government-announced scheme.
Azma Bukhari stated that the Ministry of Information has been tasked with fast-tracking all legal processes, with a formal advertisement inviting applications expected within the next two to three days.
The initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting journalists and acknowledging their role in society.
