Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Sherry Rehman said on Saturday that her party has called for open debate on 27th amendment.
Expressing her thoughts in a Senate session, Sherry said that the government should avoid making decisions in a closed room. “This parliament is not a rubber-stamp,” she added.
She has urged the opposition to participate in the democratic process, adding that nothing is being reserved with the constitutional amendment.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has asked the opposition to ensure its presence in the standing committee and discuss the reservations on the constitutional amendment. “The Suo motu facility no longer available so that no chief justice could send any premier packing.”
On the other side, PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the government wants to address the stalemate with Afghanistan through negotiations.
“The Afghan representatives do not acknowledge our evidence in the written form despite the fact that the Taliban accept our evidences during the talks,” Chaudhry added.
It is pertinent to note that Senate chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the Senate members will be provided with opportunity to discuss on the constitutional amendment on Sunday and Monday. The Senate session has been postponed till 3:00 pm tomorrow (Sunday).
