The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh alert, warning of rain in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and the upper reaches of the Indus and Kabul rivers over the next 24 hours, with the risk of flooding in several low-lying areas.
Continuous flood situation at Kotri
According to the NDMA spokesperson, a medium flood persists at Kotri Barrage, where the current flow stands at nearly 400,000 cusecs. Authorities expect the flood situation to continue until the end of September, keeping nearby areas under threat.
The NDMA added that water flow is gradually decreasing at Guddu and Sukkur Barrages, where conditions are returning to normal.
River flow updates
The authority reported a decline in water flow at Ganda Singh Wala in the Ravi River, while a low-level flood persists at Sulemanki and Islam Barrages. Despite improvements in some areas, the current river flows still pose a risk of inundating low-lying regions.
NDMA monitoring and public advisory
The NDMA’s National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) is monitoring the situation around the clock. Relevant agencies have been briefed on the evolving scenario, and precautionary measures are underway.
Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid travelling to flood-prone areas and not to attempt crossing flood relays. The NDMA also urged those staying in relief camps to wait for official instructions before returning home.
Preparedness measures
Authorities emphasized that awareness messages are being shared with all stakeholders to ensure timely response and safety. The NDMA reassured the public that it is coordinating closely with provincial and district administrations to manage risks and provide assistance where needed.
