PPP-led Sindh government removed the SBCA DG Ishaq Khoro from his post following the tragedy in Lyari building collapse wherein 27 precious lives were lost, and has now appointed a new director general of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
Shah Mir Bhutto has been appointed as the new SBCA director general.
Sindh govt announces compensation for Lyari incident victims
Following the Lyari tragedy, the Sindh government has announced financial compensation of one million rupees per person for the families of those who lost their lives.
Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani said that the affected families will not be left alone. He stated that under the current laws, strict punishment cannot be given to the responsible builder, but the government is planning to amend SBCA regulations to introduce stricter measures.
Saeed Ghani also called for the blocking of passports of those involved in illegal constructions. He has directed the Karachi Commissioner to present a detailed report on dangerous buildings in the city.
