The negotiation process between the government and opposition has gained momentum with the announcement of the third round of talks scheduled for January 16.
The breakthrough came as the doors of Adiala Jail were opened on Sunday, allowing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation committee to meet with the party’s founding chairman.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, initially announcing January 15 as the date, rescheduled the meeting to January 16 at the request of committee members. The session is set to take place at 11am in the Constitution Room of Parliament House.

The PTI, during the upcoming meeting, will formally present its demands in writing. According to opposition negotiation team spokesperson Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the PTI founder approved the continuation of talks and outlined two key demands:
- The release of all political prisoners, including Imran Khan himself.
- The formation of a judicial commission to investigate the incidents of May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024.
The PTI negotiation committee declared on Sunday that the progress in talks with the government was contingent on the establishment of a judicial commission, after meeting party founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.

The long-awaited meeting of the PTI committee and Imran Khan took place on Sunday. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur met Khan for an hour and a half in a one-on-one session inside the jail’s conference room. Meanwhile, the remaining committee members were kept in the administrative block with four other visitors.
Later, the PTI founder held a one-hour meeting with all five committee members. Gandapur left immediately afterward, but the other members addressed the media outside the jail.
