PSV Eindhoven strengthened their position at the summit of the Dutch first division on Sunday, securing a 2-1 victory over their closest contender, Feyenoord.
This triumph marked their 14th consecutive win, maintaining an impressive lead of 10 points over Feyenoord. The team's outstanding form persists as they gear up to face Arsenal in their final Champions League group match on December 12.
The match initially lacked excitement in the first half, but PSV broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari capitalised on a precise cross from Belgian international Johan Bakayoko, slotting the ball home.
Just three minutes later, the leaders extended their lead as French defender Olivier Boscagli outmanoeuvred Feyenoord's defence, heading in a corner to hush the fervent fans in De Kuip.
Despite a late attempt by Feyenoord's Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez, who scored with a curling long-distance shot in the 81st minute, PSV managed to maintain their lead.
This victory adds to their dominant performances, including a 5-2 win against Ajax in October, positioning them as a formidable force in pursuit of their 25th Dutch title.
While Feyenoord's sole previous defeat occurred against Twente in October, they have also faced setbacks with two draws, trailing behind PSV. In European competitions, PSV has already secured a spot in the Champions League's last 16 with a thrilling 3-2 away win against Sevilla.
On the other hand, Feyenoord, experiencing difficulties at the top level, is set to compete in the Europa League after the winter break despite being eliminated from the Champions League.
Ajax, recovering from their worst season start in history, currently sits in 11th place, struggling to keep pace with the top two teams after facing humiliating defeats against both PSV and Feyenoord.
