Hollywood's celebrated director Christopher Nolan has added more star power to his upcoming mythic action epic, The Odyssey, as the cast continues to expand ahead of its anticipated 2025 production.
The latest round of cast additions for The Odyssey, based on Homer’s timeless epic poem, includes acclaimed actors Bill Irwin, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, and Samantha Morton, marking another significant update for the star-studded ensemble.
The casting announcement follows the previous confirmation of Benny Safdie, known for his portrayal of physicist Edward Teller in Nolan’s Oppenheimer, alongside a slew of major Hollywood names, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.
Universal Pictures has officially described the film as a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology,” indicating that the visual spectacle is set to be one of the most ambitious projects in Nolan's career.
The director is renowned for his groundbreaking use of cinematic technology, with The Odyssey promising to take viewers on a cinematic journey unlike anything seen before.
As part of his commitment to historical accuracy, Nolan will film sections of the movie in Sicily, specifically in Favignana.
The island, often referred to as "Goat Island" due to its rugged terrain and sparse population, is thought by some scholars to be the inspiration for the location where Homer imagined the legendary hero Odysseus’s landing. The filming location is a crucial aspect of Nolan’s goal to bring Homer’s ancient tale to life with authenticity.
Production for The Odyssey is set to begin in February 2025, with the highly anticipated film scheduled for release on July 17, 2026. Fans and film enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Nolan's storied career, as the director continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and technology in filmmaking.
