Viral video sparks outrage
During his live performance, Udit Narayan was seen singing ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’ when he leaned in to kiss a female fan on the lips. The video also captures him instructing a bouncer to allow the fan closer for a selfie before the unexpected kiss.
The internet has erupted with strong reactions, with many calling out the singer’s behaviour.
One user commented, "Can’t believe my eyes… W** is this? And we worship these celebs?" Another wrote, "What the hell was that? The fact that no one is calling this out just because he is Udit Narayan is disturbing."
Some social media users also questioned the industry’s double standards when it comes to celebrity behaviour, while others urged the singer to address the controversy.
Udit Narayan’s response
In a candid interview with an Indian news media, singer Udit Narayan addressed the viral video that has garnered attention recently. He clarified his stance, saying, “Fans are crazy. We are not like this. We are decent people.” He acknowledged that while some fans show their affection through gestures like handshakes or kisses, it often crosses into madness. “What is the point of spreading this? There are so many people in the crowd, and we have bodyguards present too. But fans think they are getting a chance to meet, so someone extends their hands for a handshake, some kiss the hands… {yeh sab deewangi hoti hai.} (This is all madness).”

Udit emphasized that celebrities should not give too much attention to such behaviour, suggesting that it’s part of the passion fans have for their idols. “We should not pay attention to this,” he added.
The singer also shared his perspective on the fan frenzy when he performs on stage. “When I am singing, the fans go crazy, and I like to keep them happy. Otherwise, iss type ke log hum hain hi nahi. (We are not those kind of people). We have to keep them happy,” Udit said, reinforcing the idea that he appreciates the love and admiration of his audience.
Regarding the specific incident involving a fan kissing him on the lips, Udit clarified, “I have been in Bollywood for 46 years now, my image hasn’t been such (that I forcefully kiss fans).” He continued, expressing gratitude for the love his fans show him: “In fact, I fold my hands when I see the love my fans shower on me. I bow down, thinking phir aaj ka yeh waqt laut ke aaye na aaye. (Perhaps this time will not come back tomorrow).”
