The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reported an increase in internet subscribers to 134.78 million in October 2024, up by 1.88 million from the 132.9 million recorded in September.
According to the NCC's industry report, mobile (GSM) networks accounted for the majority, with 134.27 million subscribers, while the rest were under fixed wired and VoIP services.
All telecommunication companies, except 9mobile, saw significant increases in internet subscriptions during the period.
MTN Nigeria led the gains, with its internet subscriber base growing by 1.13 million, reaching 69.52 million in October from 68.39 million in September.
Airtel followed with a rise of 678,219 subscribers, reaching 45.47 million, while Globacom gained 184,887 new internet users, bringing its total to 17.10 million.
However, 9mobile experienced a decline, losing 125,780 subscribers, dropping from 2.29 million in September to 2.16 million in October.
The NCC also revealed a rise in the total number of telephony subscribers, which reached 157.37 million in October, an increase of 2.69 million from the previous month.
MTN remained the leader in telephony with 80.37 million subscribers, followed by Airtel (54.44 million), Globacom (19.10 million), and 9mobile (3.33 million).
Broadband penetration improved slightly, increasing from 41.56 percent in September to 42.24 percent in October.
Additionally, data usage rose to 870,398.28 terabytes from 850,249.09 terabytes in the previous month. The report also highlighted a rise in the usage of 5G, 4G, and 3G technologies by 2.33 percent, 46.27 percent, and 9.40 percent, respectively.
