Residents of Karachi are hopeful of receiving water tonight or by tomorrow as repair work on the 84-inch water pipeline on University Road progresses.
The pipeline had broken for the third time during construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
The repair work, which began three days ago, is now in its final stages. Ten pumps at Dhabeji were shut down to facilitate the repair process, causing a temporary disruption in the city's water supply. Managing Director of the Water Board, Syed Salahuddin, visited the site late last night to review progress.
Speaking to the media, MD Water Board Syed Salahuddin assured that the repair work will be completed today, and the water supply to affected areas will be restored by tonight.
The recurring pipeline damage has raised concerns among residents, but authorities have assured that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
