The first day of Ramadan in Morocco for 2025 is expected to fall on Sunday, March 2, according to initial astronomical predictions. Astronomical expert Ali Amraoui confirmed that the month of fasting will likely last 29 days, with Eid al-Fitr set for March 31, 2025.
Amraoui explained that these predictions are based on astronomical calculations, which track the movement of the moon and the appearance of the crescent. "These predictions are part of a precise method to estimate the start of Ramadan," he stated.
The Kingdom of Morocco adheres to a strict methodology when determining the beginning of lunar months. This process involves the visual sighting of the crescent moon with the naked eye, as prescribed by Islamic teachings and prophetic hadiths.
However, despite the accuracy of astronomical calculations, the official announcement of Ramadan's start will only come from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. The Ministry will confirm the date after the crescent moon is sighted, relying on a network of specialized committees across the country, supported by the Royal Armed Forces.
In accordance with Decree No. 2.18.855, Morocco will return to Greenwich Mean Time one week before the start of Ramadan, after which the country will resume GMT+1 following Eid al-Fitr.
These dates are provisional, and the Kingdom will await the official announcement for confirmation.
