An indefinite ceasefire has been agreed upon in the Kurram district following a Grand Peace Jirga organized at the Commissioner House in Kohat.
The meeting, chaired by Kohat Division Commissioner Mutasim Ballah Shah, saw over 100 elders and representatives from both sides in attendance.
The jirga aimed to establish lasting peace in Kurram, a region troubled by conflicts, and took several important steps toward resolution, and it was agreed to extend the ceasefire indefinitely. Members of the Grand Jirga conducted individual and collective meetings with both parties, leading to the historic agreement to vacate all posts and maintain the ceasefire indefinitely until a final decision is reached by the jirga.
Both parties agreed to uphold an indefinite ceasefire and pledged to vacate the posts. Security forces and police have taken over these positions to maintain law and order.
The jirga participants resolved to work towards complete and lasting peace in Kurram for the benefit of future generations. They will return to their areas as messengers of peace.
Commissioner Shah emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring peace in the district. He stated that security forces and police would continue to monitor the situation and that government authority would be upheld at all costs.
