Australia took the upper hand on the opening day of the second Test in Adelaide, dismissing India for 180 before reaching 86-1 at stumps on Friday.
According to details, Mitchell Starc was the star performer who claimed 6-48 in a fiery display as the visitors struggled under the lights.
India won the toss and opted to bat, but the decision quickly backfired. Starc removed Yashasvi Jaiswal with the first ball of the match, trapping him lbw with a sharp in-swinger. Jaiswal had scored 161 in his previous innings, but his early departure set the tone for India's struggles.
Shubman Gill showed some resistance with 31 before falling lbw to Scott Boland, while Virat Kohli managed only seven as Steve Smith took a sharp catch at slip off Starc's bowling. India lost six wickets in the second session, with Rohit Sharma (3) and Rishabh Pant (21) among the casualties.
Nitish Kumar Reddy offered a late counterattack, smashing two sixes in a single Boland over to top-score with 42. However, Starc and Pat Cummins wrapped up the tail, leaving India all out just before tea.
In reply, Australia's openers faced 10 tricky overs with the pink ball. Jasprit Bumrah provided a breakthrough by dismissing Usman Khawaja (13) with a sharp edge to Rohit Sharma at slip.
Nathan McSweeney, playing his second Test, batted patiently to remain unbeaten on 38, while Marnus Labuschagne supported him with 20 at the close. McSweeney had a reprieve when Pant dropped him on three but capitalized on the chance to steady Australia's innings.
India's bowling coach Morne Morkel remained optimistic despite the scoreline, praising the team's effort. "I thought Australia did well, but 86-1 doesn't reflect how we bowled. We still feel we're in the game," he said. Australia entered the match under pressure after a 295-run defeat in the first Test in Perth but capitalized on their strong record at Adelaide, where they have won all seven pink-ball Tests.
