The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has announced a two-month extension of the UAE visa amnesty programme, now set to conclude on December 31, 2024.
Initially launched on September 1 and scheduled to end on October 31, the amnesty scheme has allowed thousands of residents to regularize their visa status, with authorities waiving millions in fines for overstayers.
This extension coincides with the UAE's 53rd Union Day celebrations, highlighting the country's humanitarian and civilised values. ICP Director General Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili emphasized that the decision reflects the UAE’s commitment to assist individuals wishing to settle their residency status. He stated that the extension provides "the last chance for violators to regularize their status without incurring fines or facing re-entry bans."
Al Khaili noted a significant increase in applications as the original deadline approached, urging violators to take advantage of this extended period. He cautioned, however, that fines would be reinstated for those who continue to overstay beyond the new deadline. He also highlighted ICP’s plan to intensify inspections on violators post-deadline.
This is the UAE’s fourth amnesty programme since 2007, with the last one in 2018 similarly extended to allow more residents to regularize their status. Overstayers can apply for amnesty at ICP centres, approved typing centres, or via online channels throughout the UAE.
