The Met Department has issued a weather alert, warning of stormy rains expected across Sindh, including Karachi, from August 28 to 30.
According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, a powerful monsoon wind system is set to bring torrential rains to the province, potentially causing widespread flooding and disruption.
The most affected areas are expected to be Thatta and Badin, where rainfall could reach between 300 and 400mm. Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan, is also likely to experience significant rainfall, with forecasts predicting 150 to 200mm over the three-day period.
As the monsoon system moves closer, he said, the intensity of the rains is expected to increase, leading to potential challenges for the city's drainage systems and infrastructure.

"The approaching system will intensify the rain," said Chief Meteorologist Sarfraz. He also noted that the low-pressure system currently over Karachi has already brought widespread rain to the city, delighting residents who welcomed the cool weather.
Meanwhile, overnight, light to heavy rain continued across various parts of Karachi, and it is still raining in several areas, including Sarjani, Liaquatabad, Scheme 33, and Steel Town. In other parts of the city, such as Gulshan-e-Hadid, Nazimabad, and Saddar, rain continues to fall, while areas around the airport, Gulshan-e-Maimar, and Shahra-e-Faisal experienced drizzle.
The Met Department has predicted light rain to continue throughout the day.
Looking ahead, the weather authorities have indicated that a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring more rain to the region over the next three days, raising concerns about further flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
