At Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, on Saturday, the Twenty20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Canada was called off without a ball being bowled due to a wet outfield.
The umpires decided to call off the match after two inspections due to numerous wet patches on the outfield caused by Lauderhill's early morning rain.
The recent rain spells in Florida have also caused the United States of America (USA) to cancel their match against Ireland on Friday, eliminating Pakistan from the T20 World Cup and sending the home team to the tournament's Super 8.
Not to be underestimated is the fact that India has already earned a spot in the Super 8 and is grouped with Australia, Afghanistan, and either Bangladesh or the Netherlands.
In the T20 World Cup, India emerged victorious in every group match. Though they were unable to complete their group stage campaign in Florida, they managed to defeat Pakistan, Ireland, and the USA in New York.
The Indian squad will now take a plane to the West Indies, the location of their Super 8 matches.
