The Pakistani web series 'Farar,' originally produced for the Indian video-streaming platform Zee5, has made its world premiere at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2023 (CSAFF'23).
The series, titled 'Farar,' which translates to "escape" in Urdu, is set to shed light on the often-unexplored challenges faced by modern working women in South Asia.

'Farar' is a six-part series that represents a collaborative effort between artists from Pakistan and India. It was written by Pakistani writer Rida Bilal and directed by the acclaimed Pakistani film and TV director Mehreen Jabbar. Indian production houses Applause Entertainment and Zindagi produced the series.
The inspiration for 'Farar' comes from a 1996 telefilm of the same name, which was also directed by Mehreen Jabbar and featured renowned Pakistani actors Marina Khan, Sania Saeed, and Huma Nawab. The series is set to screen on September 23 as the marquee web series of the international festival.
Rida Bilal, the writer of 'Farar,' emphasized that the series portrays a side of South Asia rarely discussed in mainstream media.
It delves into the lives of modern working women in Karachi, highlighting their struggles and the dual lives they sometimes lead. Bilal expects viewers to resonate emotionally with the series.
