The National Selection Committee (NSC) has contacted Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam to discuss the upcoming ODI World Cup squad announcement following the possible dismissal of fast bowler Naseem Shah from the mega event.
Azam will meet with the selection committee tomorrow to finalize the squad.
Right-arm speed gun Naseem Shah is likely to be ruled out of the mega event due to his shoulder injury. This is a major blow to the green shirts as he is one of their most promising fast bowlers.
Naseem Shah left the field in the 46th over of Pakistan's second Asia Cup match against India, which was played on the reserve day, and was ruled out of the tournament.
Initial scans have revealed that the injury is more serious than initially thought. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently seeking a second opinion, but it is likely that Naseem will be out of action for the remainder of the year.
On the other hand, the selection committee is also meeting with head coach Grant Bradburn in Lahore today to discuss the squad.
One or two changes are likely to be made to the Asia Cup squad.
The committee is also considering the names of four fast bowlers if Naseem Shah is ruled out of the World Cup.
The names of Zaman Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, and Shahnawaz Dahan are being considered.
Hasan Ali is likely to be the first choice if he is fully fit.
Pakistan's World Cup squad is likely to be announced next week.
