BYD, the renowned Chinese automobile manufacturer, is gearing up to introduce the BYD Shark 6 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Pakistan, marking a significant milestone as the country's first-ever hybrid pickup truck.
After generating significant buzz at PAS 2024, the Shark 6 is set to compete with established diesel-powered trucks such as the Toyota Hilux Revo, ISUZU D-Max, and JAC T9 Hunter.
Powerful hybrid
The BYD Shark 6 is equipped with a turbo petrol engine of 1.5L and dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 321 kW and 650 Nm of torque. It boasts an electric-only range of up to 85 km and a total range of up to 800 km, offering a balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The pickup truck accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, making it a strong contender in the market.
Advanced features
The Shark 6 is built on the BYD DMO Super Hybrid AWD platform and offers three different terrain modes for improved handling across various environments. With a towing capacity of 2,500 kg and a payload capacity of 790 kg, it is designed to meet the needs of both urban commuters and off-road enthusiasts. The vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature also allows it to serve as a mobile power source.
The interior features a bold black-and-orange theme, while the exterior takes design cues from off-road legends like the Ford Raptor.
Price and launch details
While BYD Mega Motors has not yet announced the exact price of the BYD Shark 6 in Pakistan, its international pricing ranges from $25,000 to $38,000. BYD Mega Motors is expected to unveil the official price and launch date later this year, potentially by October 2025.
With rising fuel prices and an increasing focus on sustainability, the Shark 6 is poised to reshape Pakistan’s pickup truck market by offering a cleaner, more technologically advanced alternative.
