In a surprising turn of events, a former policeman who mysteriously vanished from the Civil Lines area of Rawalpindi seven years ago has been rescued from the clutches of a beggars' gang operating in the Dheri Hassanabad region.
The victim, identified as Mustaqim Khalid, had been enlisted by the gang to beg on their behalf, marking an alarming development in the city's law enforcement landscape.
Mustaqim, who had served in the police force since 2006, was dismissed in 2011 due to prolonged absence. His unexplained disappearance in 2016 left his family and colleagues grappling with unanswered questions for years.
The breakthrough came as a result of a targeted operation by the Rawalpindi police, who successfully located Khalid during a raid in the Dheri Hassanabad area.
Three women, identified as members of the beggars' gang, were apprehended during the operation, including two sisters named Samina and Maryam. Preliminary investigations suggest that the gang has roots in the Sindh region, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
Authorities are currently conducting extensive raids to capture additional individuals believed to be accomplices of the gang. The motives behind Khalid's enlistment into the gang remain unclear, raising concerns about the vulnerabilities within the law enforcement system.
