The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the release of PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat.
The court ordered the deputy commissioner to release the lawyer after the submission of a surety bond.
Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry heard an application challenging the detention orders of Sher Afzal Marwat.
The court had sought responses from all the parties.
The petition had argued that Marwat was detained illegally.

The government lawyer earlier submitted a response, arguing that the applicant must get in touch with the relevant forum against the detention. The detention order was issued by the deputy commissioner, it said, adding that an application must first be submitted to the government.
The response also asked the court to turn down the petition against Marwat's detention.
On behalf of the petitioner, Latif Khosa, adopted the stance that Marwat was returning after speaking at the Lahore High Court Bar and was arrested as soon as he left the main gate. Later, he was arrested and transferred to jail.
In this regard, legal requirements have not been fulfilled, as that was an illegal action, he argued. Therefore, the court should declare the Lahore deputy commissioner's directive under the MPO illegal and order the immediate release of his client.
During the hearing, Punjab Additional Advocate General Mohsin Abbas said the petitioner directly approached the high court and did not approach the relevant forum.
On Dec 14, PTI Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat was arrested by the Lahore police. The PTI legal team member was arrested outside the Lahore High Court and taken away after being bundled into a car.
The police had to face a lot of resistance from the lawyers present on the occasion who tried to save Marwat from being arrested. However, the PTI leader was arrested and taken away.
According to Lahore police, Marwat was arrested for being a cause of disturbance in society and a case will be registered against him under Section 3 of the MPO.
Order for detaining Sher Afzal Marwat for 30 days had been issued.
