Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, has raised concerns about the misuse of technology, specifically addressing the prevalence of deepfake photos and fake accounts on X (formerly Twitter).
In an Instagram statement, Sara expressed her dismay at the distortion of reality through manipulated images circulating on social media.
The 24-year-old highlighted the potential harm caused by the misuse of technology, emphasizing the importance of truth and authenticity on the internet. "Social media is a wonderful space for all of us to share our joys, sorrows, and daily activities. However, it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology as it takes away from the truth and authenticity of the internet," she stated.
Sara revealed that she had encountered deepfake photos of herself that were "far from reality." Deepfake technology involves the creation of highly convincing fake videos or images using artificial intelligence, often making it challenging to distinguish between real and manipulated content.
The cricket legend's daughter also addressed the issue of fake accounts on X impersonating her. "A few accounts on X have obviously been created with an intent to impersonate me and mislead people. I do not have an account on X, and I hope X looks into such accounts and suspends them," Sara asserted, urging the social media platform to take immediate action against these fraudulent accounts.
"Entertainment should never come at the expense of the truth. Let's encourage communication that's based on trust and reality," she concluded, emphasizing the need for responsible online behavior.
