Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said on Thursday that those expecting support from Washington would inevitably sink alongside it.
Addressing a gathering, Rehman announced that nationwide protests would be held the following day against exorbitant electricity prices and the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
He demanded that the ruling authorities lower electricity tariffs and revoke unjust taxes, warning of continued resistance if these demands were ignored.
“The rulers must reduce electricity prices and withdraw illegitimate taxes,” said Rehman. He further stated that the JI would relaunch a peaceful resistance movement to secure the rights of the people.
Criticising the government, Rehman asserted: "Those in power had ascended to their positions with the help of Form-47 and the establishment."
He remarked that prevailing circumstances indicated the United States would soon find itself isolated on the global stage.
The JI emir emphasised that individuals looking towards local and international establishments for support could not be considered true politicians.
Rehman stated: "The future belonged to the JI."
