Miko Peled initially followed in his father's footsteps as he enlisted in Israel's Special Forces after completing high school and earning the red beret.
However, his military experience led to disillusionment and he soon became disheartened with the situation.
He relinquished his status and transitioned into a role as a medic.
Disgusted by the 1982 Lebanon war, he buried his service pin in the earth to symbolize his rejection of the military path.
In 1983, a significant turning point occurred when Peled opted to skip a Peace Now demonstration in Jerusalem to attend a karate class.
Tragically, on that very evening, a grenade attack perpetrated by a right-wing extremist claimed the life of one of the demonstrators.
This incident deeply affected Peled, and he interpreted it as a sign to change his direction.
He decided to embrace the philosophy of karate, a discipline of non-violence that teaches individuals to conquer seemingly insurmountable challenges.
This journey led him to Japan and eventually to San Diego, California, where he settled with his wife and family.
He distanced himself from activism during this period and focused on martial arts, ultimately achieving a sixth-degree black belt in karate.
