The Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium in Karachi has been successfully renovated through a collaborative effort between the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Pakistan Army, marking its return to prominence with the 68th DHA National Hockey Championship 2024.
The revitalized facility immediately proved its worth by hosting fourteen teams in the national championship, culminating in an electrifying final match where Pakistan Customs emerged victorious over Mari Petroleum in a close contest, securing the title with a 10-9 score.
Lieutenant General Babar Iftikhar, Corps Commander Karachi, attended the championship final as the chief guest, distributing awards among the participating teams and players. During the ceremony, he emphasized the significance of hockey as Pakistan's national sport and called for continued support from all stakeholders for its development.
The tournament's semi-finals featured intense competition, with Pakistan Customs facing National Bank, and Mari Petroleum competing against Air Force. The final match drew significant public attendance, highlighting the enduring appeal of hockey in Karachi.
The stadium's renovation represents a crucial milestone in Pakistani hockey infrastructure, with the facility now equipped to host both national and international tournaments. The project, which had been awaiting technical and quality improvements for some time, was completed through the joint efforts of PHF and Pakistan Army.
