A convoy carrying food supplies is set to depart for Parachinar today, following a delay on January 4 due to an incident in which the Deputy Commissioner was fired upon.
According to government sources, local peace committees have assured the establishment of peace in the region, and police and law enforcement agencies will be tasked with securing the convoy.
The perpetrators of the attack on the Deputy Commissioner will be given appropriate punishment, and the formation of the peace committees was part of an agreement reached during a tribal jirga on January 1. Under this agreement, the tribes have pledged to hand over weapons to the state within 15 days.
The departure of the convoy is expected to help ease the ongoing roadblock situation, which has lasted for over 80 days, causing significant difficulties for the local population in accessing basic services and medical supplies.
The process of eliminating local bankers will also be completed within a month, as part of efforts to strengthen the peacebuilding process in the region.
