Madinah and its surrounding desert areas have been experiencing heavy rainfall since early morning, causing localized flooding and significant disruptions.
Accompanied by thunder and lightning, the downpour has been intense, with reports of hail emerging from various locations in the region.
The rain, which has led to a sudden drop in temperatures, was welcomed by many at the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid Nabawi), where visitors took the opportunity to pray under the cascading downpour, which was seen by many as a blessing.
Authorities have issued warnings of ongoing adverse weather conditions, urging residents and pilgrims to remain cautious as the rain continues to fall. The downpour has also caused a noticeable reduction in visibility on the roads, further complicating transportation in the region.
In response to the inclement weather, the Saudi Arabian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the nearby cities of Jeddah and Mecca. The alert indicates the possibility of further heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for flash flooding in these areas over the coming hours.
Meteorological experts predict that the rain may last throughout the day, with conditions gradually improving by the evening. The public is advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to avoid areas prone to flooding.
Authorities have also urged people to remain vigilant, especially in low-lying areas, as the risk of flash floods remains high. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any urgent situations.
