The National Logistics Cell (NLC) and DP World have successfully established a direct shipping service between Pakistan and Bangladesh, marking a significant development in South Asian maritime trade connectivity.
Since its inception in October, the service has facilitated the movement of more than 1,000 containers between the two nations, establishing a new trade corridor in the region. The initiative represents a substantial advancement in strengthening South Asian trade relationships and regional connectivity.
In a further expansion of maritime operations, NLC's first vessel will commence container service between Karachi and Jebel Ali on January 13. A second vessel is scheduled to depart by the end of January, broadening the scope of the shipping network.
The joint venture has also announced plans to launch an edible oil vessel service in February 2025, signaling a diversification of cargo operations. This expansion aims to accommodate various trade requirements and enhance regional commercial activities.
Industry analysts note that this direct shipping connection could potentially reduce transportation times and costs for businesses operating between the two countries. The service is positioned to facilitate increased trade volumes and economic cooperation in the South Asian region.
The establishment of these new maritime routes aligns with broader regional initiatives to enhance economic integration and trade facilitation among South Asian nations. Officials indicate that the service will continue to evolve based on market demands and trade patterns.
