National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq requested on Saturday Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to form a government negotiation committee to advance talks with the opposition.
According to details, Sadiq held a meeting with the prime minister to discuss the formation of the committee. The request followed the formation of a negotiation team by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speaking to Samaa TV, Sadiq said: "Barrister Gohar has acknowledged the role of the speaker as custodian of the house and stressed the need for playing an active role in facilitating the dialogues."
Sadiq maintained: "Barrister Gohar has suggested forming a negotiation committee, which I endorsed."
He added that resolving all the issues through dialogue was the only viable solution.

Separately, it was reported the PTI had once again threatened to launch the civil disobedience if the talks "fail" with the government.
Sources divulged on Saturday that the PTI's core committee had expressed its concerns over "lack of facilities" provided to Imran Khan in jail. The core committee had also briefed about the cases against the PTI founder.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and party stalwart Salman Akram Raja briefed the committee regarding the negotiations. The leaders were briefed that "no significant development took place in line with the negotiation process."
It was decided to move forward with the consultations of the core committee if there will be any positive development in line with the negotiation.
"The United States sanctions on the Pakistani companies is not a political matter but a national issue."
