Over 40 schools in Delhi, including DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, were targeted by a bomb threat via email, causing panic among students and staff. The email, sent late Sunday night, claimed that multiple bombs had been planted inside school buildings and demanded $30,000 to defuse them.
The email warned of injuries, stating, "The bombs are small and hidden very well… It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate."
The Delhi Police, alerted by calls from schools early Monday morning, deployed bomb detection teams, dog squads, and local police to conduct thorough searches. So far, no suspicious items have been found, and the threat has been declared a hoax. Investigators are now tracing the email's IP address to locate the sender.
Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi assured the public of enhanced security at schools, stating, "We are working to ensure the safety of all children and will take swift action against the perpetrator."
The incident has drawn sharp criticism of the central government’s handling of law and order in the national capital. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned Home Minister Amit Shah on the rising insecurity, saying, "The people of Delhi have never seen such a poor state of law and order before."
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia also condemned the deteriorating security situation. Sisodia expressed concerns about children’s safety, saying, "If the national capital is not safe, what is the central government doing?"
This incident follows a previous bomb hoax targeting CRPF schools in October, raising further concerns about public safety. The Delhi Police continues its investigation to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.
