Navjot Kaur - wife of prominent Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu - has received a legal notice worth over $100 million (approximately Rs 850 crore) from the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS).
The notice addresses claims made by Navjot Singh Sidhu about his wife’s recovery from Stage 4 cancer using what he described as “traditional” remedies.
Claims on cancer recovery
On November 21, Navjot Singh Sidhu shared that his wife had beaten Stage 4 cancer despite being given only 40 days to live by doctors.
Sidhu attributed her recovery to a specialised diet and lifestyle changes, controversially describing cancer as “inflammation” caused by certain foods like milk, wheat, refined flour (maida), and sugar.
Backlash from medical experts
The claims drew sharp criticism from health experts and the CCS. Dr. Kuldeep Solanki, Convener of CCS, emphasised the potential harm of promoting unverified cancer treatments, stating that such misinformation could lead patients to abandon prescribed medical regimens, endangering their lives.
In their legal notice, CCS demanded an explanation for the statements and cautioned against encouraging treatments not backed by scientific evidence.
Sidhu’s clarification
In response to the backlash, Sidhu released a video on Monday clarifying his comments. He explained that the dietary practices followed by his wife were developed with input from medical professionals and were intended as complementary to conventional cancer treatment, not as a replacement.
