Light rain in and around the Karachi airport has led to significant flight disruptions, with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) grounding small planes due to safety concerns.
The rainy season exacerbates flying issues for smaller aircraft due to low visibility, while inclement weather, low load and operational matters have impacted airport operations and resulted in the cancellation of several domestic and international flights.
Sources from Karachi airport revealed that a total of 16 outbound flights, operated by both domestic and international airlines, have been cancelled.
Among the affected airlines, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has cancelled six domestic and international flights. These include:
- PK 503 to Gwadar
- PK 731 to Jeddah
- PK 536 to Sukkur
- PK 306 to Lahore
- PK 340 to Faisalabad to depart at 10:30am
- PK 310 to Quetta
Other airlines have also been hit by the weather-induced disruptions. Three flights each of AirSial and Serene Air were cancelled, including AirSial flight PF 121 to Islamabad, and PF 143 and PF 145 to Lahore. On the other hand, Serene Air flight ER 504 to Islamabad was cancelled, as well as ER 522 and ER 524 to Lahore.
Al Jazeera Air’s flight 5096 to Baku, Iran Air’s flight 813 to Tehran, and Qatar Air’s flight QR 611 to Doha have also been cancelled.
Fly Jinnah cancelled flights 852 to Quetta and 672 to Islamabad.
Passengers have been advised to stay updated on their flight status and to remain patient as the CAA takes necessary precautions for safety during the ongoing weather disturbance.
