Actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda has been hospitalized after sustaining a leg injury at his home. According to PTI, quoting the Mumbai Police, the injury occurred due to an accidental discharge from his own revolver.
Govinda, who is 60, is currently receiving treatment at CritiCare Hospital and is reported to be out of danger. His manager has confirmed that the actor is doing well. The incident, which took place around 4:45am while Govinda was preparing to leave for Kolkata, is under investigation. Authorities have seized the weapon involved.
Govinda's wife, Sunita Ahuja, shared with the media that the actor is stable and undergoing treatment. She was in Kolkata at the time and is on her way to Mumbai to be by his side.
The actor’s manager, Shashi Sinha, explained to ANI that Govinda was attempting to place his licensed revolver back in its case when he accidentally dropped it, causing it to fire. Fortunately, the bullet has been removed, and Govinda is expected to recover.
Police have confirmed that no formal complaint has been lodged regarding the incident.
It should be noted that Govinda was extremely popular as a comedy hero in the 1990s. Some of his popular super hits include Aanhkhain (1993), Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No 1 (1995), Deewana Mastana (1997), Dulhe Raja (1998), Bade Mian Chhote Mian (1998), Anadi No 1 (1999) and Jodi No 1 (2001). In the 2000s also, he starred in blockbuster films like Bhagam Bhaag (2006), Partner (2007) and Life Partner (2009).
