A local court in Lahore has approved a four-day physical remand for analyst Orya Maqbool Jan, and the court has also requested an investigation report from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The hearing was presided over by Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid, where the FIA sought a fourteen-day remand, arguing that Jan was not cooperating with the investigation.
The FIA’s lawyer asserted that they had concrete evidence and that the case had been registered in accordance with the law.
In response, Jan's lawyer argued that the charges against his client were false and baseless, emphasizing that Jan had not insulted any institution. He claimed that the FIA lacked evidence and was attempting to fabricate it under pressure.
During the hearing, Orya Maqbool Jan himself took the stand, asserting that he had already provided the FIA with the passwords to all his accounts. He questioned the necessity of his remand, rhetorically asking if he had committed a crime as serious as theft to warrant such measures.
The renowned analyst also mentioned that his three sons were abroad, and despite the challenges, he had chosen to remain in Pakistan.
