Renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been detained by the Dubai police after he was prevented from boarding a flight at Dubai Airport.
The police took Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with them to the Bar Dubai police station.
Sources said that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's former manager and popular showbiz promoter, Salman Ahmed, has filed a case against him in Dubai. However, sources said that the singer has not been formally arrested.
It is said that the singer was in Dubai to perform at various musical shows.
Meanwhile, the singer has denied he has been arrested, claiming he was called to answer questions and he submitted requests, which anyone could do.
"I was not arrested and no such incident happened," Khan claimed, adding that he was just generally questioned at the airport.
Music director Farooq Rao claimed Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was in Dubai and not arrested. "Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is recording his songs in Dubai," Rao claimed.
In January this year, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) started a money-laundering and tax evasion inquiry into the renowned singer after it was revealed that the musician made nearly Rs8 billion in 12 years for local and international concerts.
The decision of the tax authorities came as the global star grappled with the scandal of violent behaviour following the emergence of a sensational video, which showed him repeatedly beating one of his band members allegedly over a missing bottle of liquor.
The video shocked tens of millions of people around the world. Rahat has contributed dozens of songs for Bollywood.
On the other hand, in February, Salman Ahmed found himself embroiled in a controversy as a leaked video exposed his veiled threats against some of Bollywood's most prominent stars. The leaked footage revealed Salman Ahmed allegedly issuing open threats to Bollywood singers and Pakistani qawwal Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, promising to take drastic measures against them.
The video, reportedly recorded six months prior and recently leaked by a staff member, shows Salman Ahmed expressing anger and frustration towards artists who failed to fulfill their commitments.
In the footage, he could be seen making derogatory remarks and issuing warnings of serious repercussions for those who did not adhere to his demands.
Among the artists mentioned in the video were Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh, Salim-Sulaiman, Mika Singh, Aditya Narayan, Asha Bhosle, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Salman Ahmed managed these artists for concerts and events in various countries, including Dubai, the UK, and the USA.
