In a major boost to its tourism industry, Thailand has announced visa-free entry for citizens of 93 countries. This exciting new policy, which took effect immediately, allows visitors from these countries to stay in the "Land of Smiles" for up to 60 days without the hassle of securing a visa.
Previously, only passport holders from 57 countries enjoyed this privilege. This significant expansion is expected to attract millions of tourists and revitalize Thailand's economy, which heavily relies on tourism.
Who benefits?
The visa-free scheme covers a wide range of countries, including popular tourist destinations like the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, as well as emerging markets such as India, China, and Brazil. However, it's important to note that Pakistanis are not currently included in this list.
Thailand’s tourism boom
Thailand’s tourism sector has been steadily recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country recorded a remarkable 17.5 million foreign visitors in the first half of this year, marking a 35% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This surge in tourist arrivals is a testament to Thailand's enduring appeal as a top travel destination.
Other visa-related changes
In addition to the visa-free policy, Thailand has introduced a five-year visa for foreign workers, allowing them to stay for up to 180 days per year. Furthermore, international students with bachelor's degrees or higher can now stay in the country for a year after graduation to explore job opportunities or travel plans.
These changes reflect Thailand's commitment to attracting skilled workers and talented graduates while fostering a vibrant and welcoming environment for visitors from around the world.
While Pakistanis eagerly await the possibility of visa-free travel to Thailand, the country continues to explore new avenues to enhance its tourism potential and strengthen its global connections.
