The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, has announced that the moon for the month of Muharram was not sighted.
The announcement was made during a press conference following the committee’s meeting in Quetta.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed that no credible evidence of the moon's sighting was received from any part of the country. Consequently, the Islamic New Year will commence after the completion of the current lunar month.
Based on this announcement, the 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, will be observed on Wednesday, July 17.
Ashura holds significant religious importance for Muslims, marking the day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at the Battle of Karbala.
Earlier, the Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad had announced that the moon of Muharram was not sighted. During the meeting held to observe the crescent, no evidence of moon sighting was received from Islamabad or surrounding areas.
As a result, the meeting of the Zonal Sighting of the Crescent Committee was concluded without confirmation of the moon’s visibility.
