After months of requests, Ukraine said on Friday that it has received its third Patriot air defence system from Germany, protecting its infrastructure and citizens against Russian air strikes.
In the spring, Moscow resumed its aerial attacks on the national power grid of Ukraine, resulting in widespread blackouts. Earlier this year, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that his nation required at least seven more Patriot systems to defend itself.
The equipment has already been delivered, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which also commended Germany for its "unwavering support" on X.
German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger said on X "It will help improve the protection of civilians and infrastructure. The Ukrainian crew has completed appropriate training in Germany."
Ukraine has stated that it expects the NATO meeting in Washington next week to bring about progress on the issue of air defence supplies. According to a senior US State Department official, Kyiv should receive "good news" from the summit.
In February 2022, Russia initiated a comprehensive invasion of Ukraine and frequently employs its arsenal of missiles and drones to carry out long-range attacks.
