An old social media post by Bollywood film actress Kangana Ranaut defending Will Smith's infamous slap at the 2022 Oscars has resurfaced, sparking accusations of hypocrisy after the actress was slapped by a CISF personnel at Chandigarh airport this week.
In 2022, Will Smith made headlines when he slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards after Rock made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
At the time, Kangana Ranaut publicly supported Smith, posting on her Instagram Stories, "If some idiot used my mom or sister’s illness to make a bunch of fools laugh, I would slap him like @willsmith did...badass move."
The tables turned when Ranaut herself was slapped by CISF officer Kulwinder Kaur over her comments on the farmer protests.
Ranaut condemned those defending the incident, prompting netizens to dig up her previous support for Smith’s actions. The old post has been widely shared on Reddit, with users calling out the perceived double standard.
One Reddit user commented, "Kangana didn't expect she'd be slapped for something she said. Hypocrisy at its best," while another added, "There's a limit to hypocrisy, that's why never celebrate something like this."
The slap incident has led to CISF personnel Kulwinder Kaur's suspension and an FIR lodged against her.
Kaur justified her actions in a video, stating, "Kangana had given a statement that women farmers were sitting at the farmers' protest for ₹100 each. My mother was also sitting there when she gave this statement. I could not tolerate the insult of my mother."
