Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi shared his thoughts on a range of topics, from Virat Kohli’s positive remarks about visiting Pakistan to the future of Pakistani cricket.
Speaking to media, he praised Indian cricket star Virat Kohli for his positive remarks about visiting Pakistan. “I expected the same thing from Virat,” Afridi said, expressing his appreciation for Kohli’s words. “I will welcome Virat whether he comes to PSL or with the Indian team,” Afridi added, emphasising the importance of cricketing ties between the two nations.
Discussing emerging talent, the former Pakistan captain singled out Saeem Ayub, describing him as “very talented” and expressing hope that Ayub would perform well in the future.
Afridi highlighted a crucial need for the Pakistan team: “Pakistan needs a player who can play six overs at the start.” He also lamented the lack of justice for players Haris and Sahibzada Farhan, suggesting they had not been given fair opportunities.
He also shared his thoughts on the upcoming cricket venues. “American wickets will be favorable for the batsmen,” he noted, indicating that the playing conditions in the United States would benefit offensive players. He was optimistic about Pakistan’s chances in upcoming tournaments, stating, “Pakistan must play the World Cup final.”
Commenting on the ongoing tape ball tournament in Karachi, the cricketing legend noted the high level of competition and talent. He mentioned Taimur Mirza as a promising player but remarked, “Taimur Mirza is a good player but he still cannot become Shahid Afridi,” highlighting the uniqueness of his own career.
Regarding his personal interactions with Shaheen Afridi, he said, “I rarely talk about cricket with Shaheen,” praising the Pakistani pacer’s intelligence and focus. “Shaheen is very intelligent; he is told to focus on cricket,” he added, showing his support and guidance for the young player.
