The sudden outbreak of conjunctivitis has gripped the residents of Mandi Bahauddin, adding to the health challenges faced by the city.
With more than one hundred new cases reported daily at the DHQ Hospital, medical authorities are urging citizens to take precautionary measures to curb the spread of the eye infection.
Dr. Sarfraz Latif, in-charge of the Eye Department at DHQ Hospital, warned that the only way to prevent further escalation of the epidemic is through stringent precautionary measures.
Dr. Sarfraz Latif explained, "The duration of the epidemic in infected patients is typically 3 to 4 days.
“Conjunctivitis is highly contagious and can easily spread through direct contact or contaminated surfaces. Therefore, it is crucial for affected individuals to wash their eyes frequently and practice social distancing," he added.
The symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness, itching, discharge, and tearing of the eyes.
While it is generally not considered a severe condition, the ease with which it spreads within communities necessitates strict preventive measures.
