Smartphones messaging app, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta Platforms, resumed operations on Wednesday following an eight-hour outage that affected thousands of users worldwide.

According to Downdetector data, at its height, the outage affected over 24,000 WhatsApp users in the US. Over 5,000 Instagram users also reported outages.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages by compiling status reports from various sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform, about 1,000 people in the US were still having problems with Instagram.

According to data from Downdetector, the WhatsApp outage had affected thousands of users in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and India.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Meta.
A technical problem resulted in an outage that affected hundreds of thousands of users worldwide on the social media company's Facebook and Instagram last month for over two hours.
With Threads included in its app family, Meta boasts 3.19 billion daily active users.
