The day marks the adoption of the historic Lahore Resolution in 1940, which provided a framework for achieving the goal of a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia.
Beginning with the break of dawn, special prayers and recitations from the holy Quran echoed in mosques across the nation, invoking blessings for national prosperity, unity, and the elevation of the martyrs' status. The national flag fluttered proudly atop important government buildings, symbolizing the spirit of independence and resilience.
The highlight of the day is the grand military parade being held in the capital city of Islamabad, where troops from all three armed forces and various security forces showcased their discipline and prowess. Fighter jets performed breathtaking aerial displays, captivating spectators and instilling a sense of pride in the nation's defense capabilities.
In traditional fashion, gun salutes reverberated across the country, with 31 guns fired in the federal capital and 21 in provincial capitals.
The gun salute was held at the BX Stadium in the provincial capital by troops of the Pakistan Army. The ceremony started with the recitation of holy Quran.
The historic city of Lahore witnessed a solemn Changing of the Guard ceremony at Mazar-e-Iqbal, with the Pakistan Air Force taking over duties from the Sutlej Rangers. Air Vice Marshal Tariq Mehmood graced the event as the chief guest, where special guests paid homage to the revered poet Allama Iqbal by offering flowers and reciting Fatiha at his shrine.
An investiture ceremony will be held at the Presidency in the afternoon where President Asif Ali Zardari would confer awards and medals to personalities for their outstanding contribution in different fields.
Security in Islamabad
In Islamabad, major roads, including the Islamabad Expressway and Murree Road were closed to traffic from Khanna Bridge to Zero Point and Nawaz Sharif Park, respectively as the Pakistan Day parade was underway. Additionally, IJP Road was shut down from Double Road Chowk to Faizabad.
The army assumed control of traffic management, ensuring the smooth execution of events. To maintain security, mobile phone services were partially suspended in Rawalpindi until 2pm.
